CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER – BASIC INDUSTRIES PTE LTD

Basic Industries Limited (BIL) is the parent company of Standard Concrete Industries and Humes Industries, and a subsidiary of Fijian Holdings Limited (FHL). As the largest manufacturer and supplier of quarry aggregates, ready-mix concrete, concrete blocks and masonry products, concrete pipes, and precast concrete products in Fiji; the Company is a key player in the construction and infrastructure development industries and has been a partner to significant infrastructure projects in the country. ABOUT THE SUCCESSFUL INCUMBENT AND THE POSITION

Basic Industries Limited is now looking for an experienced and strategic commercial leader to join as Chief Executive Officer; with a proven track record of delivering exceptional results in infrastructure development, construction engineering projects and providing technical leadership in design and quality to continuously meet customer expectations. The CEO will be responsible for driving the overall vision, strategy, and operational excellence of the company, delivering sustainable growth and long-term profitability. With the strategic priorities of the Board, demonstrated capabilities in leading the development and execution of tactical strategies with an excellent technical background in infrastructure engineering and optimising business operating models will be a critical leadership and operational skillset that the successful incumbent must possess. This role reports directly to the Board of Directors and the Group Chief Executive Officer – FHL.

SOME OF THE KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE WILL INCLUDE:

  • Lead in defining, reviewing and executing BIL’s current and future strategic direction, delivery of strategic and operational key performance results and outcomes across the companies including the accelerated turnaround and sustainable growth initiatives in line with BIL’s strategic plan.
  • Outline with Board business re-engineering approaches to improve business performance and elevate critical technical capabilities of the business.
  • Oversee the operations of Standard Concrete and Humes Industries, ensuring efficiency, quality, and innovation in all processes.
  • Spearhead the scoping, defining technical specifications, contract negotiation and execution of profitable strategic projects with management and guide post-implementation reviews.
  • Facilitate and lead the review of organisational design against business strategies and drive the implementation of business transformations to deliver targeted strategic outcomes.
  • Responsible for the company’s financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, aiming for sustainable year-on-year growth and achieving key financial targets.
  • Accountable for the accurate and timely presentation of the Financial, Annual reports and Strategic Plans to the Board, BIL’s Shareholders and FHL Group.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand the company’s market presence and drive growth, leveraging market insights for long-term expansion.
  • Lead the BIL management team to drive continuous improvements initiatives, optimal utilization of resources and foster a high-performing, collaborative culture.
  • Chair and accountable for organisational talent reviews with the targeted development and execution of People Strategies that will further enable the Company Strategies.
  •  Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, regulators, and the community.
  • Lead the development and execution of transformation and growth strategies, including digital transformation and market expansion, to drive operational improvement and shareholder value.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies, promoting good governance practices Spearhead continuous improvement and innovation in products, processes, and services to maintain a competitive edge, and elevate BIL’s business model to the next level, lead the business into new markets and new ways of working.
  • Champion environmentally sustainable and socially responsible initiatives that align with the company’s values and goals, reducing environmental impact and enhancing community engagement.

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

  • More than 7 years of similar leadership experience with successful infrastructure development and construction engineering background.
  • Excellent leadership attributes in steering technical and operational changes and strategic projects.
  • Demonstrated success in developing, executing and reviewing multi-year strategies with sustainable results.
  • Proven project management success with benefits that improve both competitive edge and business performance.
  • Excellent executive leadership reputation in building and motivating teams that deliver results with a respectable reputation that demonstrates the values that are important to BIL and the FHL Group.
  • Led business transformations and highly experienced in driving people and business targeted outcomes within targeted timeframes.
  • Commercially astute with good appreciation of market trends, identifying and executing strategic opportunities with partners and key players within the manufacturing and construction industry with demonstrated successful results in business performance and growth.
  • Successful performance history in turning the business around with sound business strategies and engineering business models.
  • Must have strong business ethics with respected reputation in collaborating and working with Board of Directors and Shareholders.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering with specialization in construction engineering and having an excellent demonstrated knowledge base in Business and Supply Chain Management are highly advantageous.
