FITTER MACHINIST

Pacific Cement Ltd is seeking a qualified and experienced Fitter Machinist to be responsible for the maintenance and operational reliability of our cement manufacturing plant. This role involves the maintenance, fitting of mechanical/plant machinery and servicing of mechanical equipment across the facility, including cement mills, screw conveyors, gearboxes, and hydraulic systems and mobile equipment.  The role reports directly to the Mechanical Engineer and will be based at Lami, Suva.

SOME OF THE KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE WILL INCLUDE:

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and inspections on plant machinery including cement mills, screw conveyors, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and mobile equipment.
  • Execute coupling and shaft alignment to ensure optimal equipment performance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical and electromechanical systems.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Performing maintenance and repairs on mobile equipment such as forklifts (hydraulics).
  • Ensuring proper alignment of couplings and servicing of screw conveyors and gearboxes.
  • Contribute to a high-performance team culture by aligning and driving own performance OKR/KPI and supporting continuous improvement.
  • Promote Pacific Cement’s core values, integrity, teamwork, accountability, and innovation—in daily operations and interactions.
  • Ensure full compliance with company policies, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
  • Actively participate in maintaining a safe and sustainable work environment through hazard identification and responsible equipment handling.

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in maintenance, heavy industrial machinery fitting, and repair of heavy machinery equipment.
  • Trade Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Plant Maintenance Engineering.
  • Must have a strong technical knowledge of cement mill, conveyor systems, gearboxes and hydraulic systems/Pneumatics, Pumps/Valves and machining fabrication (bearing, lubrication, filters and seals).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, assembly drawings.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting and repairing valves, control modules.
  • Familiarity with safety and quality standards for mechanical operations. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • A Valid Group 9 Driving License would be added Advantage.
