About Us
Our History
The Beginning of a Shared Vision
Fijian Holdings Limited was established in 1984 following growing concern that iTaukei people had limited ownership and participation in Fiji's formal business sector.
While iTaukei communities owned significant traditional resources, particularly land, this did not always result in meaningful participation in major companies, access to corporate income or representation in senior business leadership.
The Bose Levu Vakaturaga supported the establishment of a professionally managed investment company that could represent the collective commercial interests of the iTaukei people.
FHL was created to turn this vision into reality.

Four Decades of Growth
1984
FHL Is Established
FHL was incorporated in 1984 with the purpose of improving the economic position of iTaukei people through collective investment and commercial ownership.
Its shareholders included provincial councils, iTaukei institutions, community organisations, cooperatives, family companies and individual investors.
By pooling shareholder funds, FHL could acquire meaningful interests in established companies and participate in large commercial opportunities.
1980s – 1990s
Establishing a Strong Investment Base
During its early years, FHL focused on acquiring shares in established Fiji businesses.
This approach allowed its shareholders to participate in company profits, dividend income and long-term capital growth. It also provided opportunities for iTaukei professionals to gain experience in business management, governance and corporate leadership.
1997
Listing on the South Pacific Stock Exchange
On 20 January 1997, FHL was listed on the South Pacific Stock Exchange.
The listing marked an important stage in the company's development. It strengthened financial reporting, corporate governance, transparency and shareholder accountability.
FHL became one of Fiji's most significant publicly listed investment companies while retaining its focus on iTaukei ownership and economic participation.
2000s
Expanding Across Key Industries
During the 2000s, FHL expanded from holding investments in other companies to managing a growing group of subsidiaries and associated businesses.
The Group developed interests across industries including:
- • Cement and concrete
- • Building materials
- • Consumer Finance
- • Tourism
- • Property
- • Retail
- • Media
- • Fund Management
- • Stockbroking
- • Information technology
This period established FHL as a diversified corporate group with a strong presence across Fiji's economy.
2010s
Strengthening the Group
Throughout the 2010s, FHL continued to grow and strengthen its portfolio.
The Group expanded its investments in finance, tourism, retail, manufacturing, construction, property, media and entertainment.
This diversification reduced reliance on any single business or industry and provided a stronger foundation for long-term growth.
2020 – 2021
Responding to the Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic created one of the most difficult periods in FHL's history.
Border closures and restrictions significantly affected tourism, retail and other parts of the Group. Despite these challenges, FHL focused on protecting its businesses, supporting employees and preparing the Group for economic recovery.
As business activity resumed, FHL returned to profitability and continued to strengthen its financial position.
2022
A Capital Market Milestone
In 2022, FHL became the first company to issue and list wholesale corporate bonds on the South Pacific Stock Exchange.
The $30 million bond issue provided FHL with an additional source of long-term funding and contributed to the development of Fiji's capital market.
2024
Celebrating 40 Years
FHL celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024.
Over four decades, the company grew from a collective investment initiative into one of Fiji's largest and most diversified corporate groups.
The anniversary recognised the vision of FHL's founders, the confidence of its shareholders and the contributions of its employees, directors and business partners.
By this time, FHL had distributed approximately $142 million in dividends since its establishment.
2025
FHL Tower Completed and Welcomes Its First Tenants
The FHL Tower was completed in 2025, marking a major milestone in the growth of the FHL Group and its property portfolio.
Fijian Holdings Limited, FHL Properties Limited and the Asian Development Bank became the first tenants to occupy the new tower. The development established a modern corporate base for the Group and introduced a new commercial landmark to Suva.
2024 – 2026
Investing for the Future
FHL continued to expand through strategic investments in property, infrastructure, tourism and established Fiji businesses.
Key developments included investments in Port Denarau Marina, Fletcher Higgins Fiji and the development of the FHL Tower in Suva.
FHL also introduced an impact investment programme aimed at supporting commercial opportunities involving iTaukei businesses and resource owners.
These investments reflect FHL's commitment to achieving strong commercial outcomes while supporting broader economic participation.
Our Journey Continues
From its establishment in 1984, FHL has remained guided by a clear purpose: to increase iTaukei participation in business and create long-term wealth for its shareholders.
Today, FHL is a diversified investment group with interests across many of Fiji's most important industries.
Our history reflects more than corporate growth. It represents a shared journey towards stronger ownership, greater participation and lasting economic opportunity for the iTaukei people.
